Our 5 Scholars for School Year 2010-2011:Click here or on any of the picture to see slide show of 2010 Contract Signing Pictures | A BRIDGE TO A DREAMWe were in grade school when the great Martin Luther King delivered his famous speech "I HAVE A DREAM" in Washington DC. Today, over four decades since that momentous day, his call still rings true for millions of people all over the world. Education in the Philippines is still a distant dream for most young people. In this country of almost 90 million, the poor squeeze out their daily survival from a wage of around $7 a day, more or less an hour's minimum wage in the United States. Obviously, this amount is not enough for a family of 6-8 persons. It is not enough for their food and shelter. It is not enough to send their young ones to school. In this poverty stricken land, dreams die young. And the youth do not realize their potentials. This is their tragedy. We, volunteers of the Araullo High School 1972 International Alumni Foundation Inc., a U.S.-based charitable, non-profit foundation, vow to do our share in helping deserving young Filipinos realize their dream to rise out of poverty and become productive, contributing members of society. Education is the only way they can realize their dream. We have in the following pages the stories of five young students we have selected from nearly a hundred candidates identified by the faculty of Araullo High School in Manila. We invite you to read their stories and be amazed at their determination to complete their education despite the poverty that surrounds them; despite the difficulties that try to suck them into the cycle of misery and want. They are the youths who do not want the tragedy of their parents and peers to continue. They just need a helping hand. This scholarship program is the AHS1972IAF's way of helping these young people reach their dreams. We want to assist them attain their full capabilities. We aim to provide the bridge to their real potentials. We invite you to help us bridge their dreams. Click on the link 2010-2011 Scholars or 2009-2010 Scholars. ![]() Our 2010-2011 Scholars.
